Reclaiming Your Work in the New Year

Establish Your COMMON Routine

Morning routines set the tone for the rest of the day. While there are many steps you can take to achieve an excellent routine, the most important are establishing a daily morning plan, clearing your head, and moving your body. We here at COMMON have all the tools you need and more to reach these goals and reclaim your work-flow in the new year.

Committing to a morning ritual boosts levels of creativity and accountability. By simply agreeing and sticking to a routine, you will see a fast improvement in your overall work productivity and mood. Claim your routine and make it your own – do not try to reach an unachievable goal or do tasks that do not feel organic to you. Your morning routine can be simple but, you may want to include the second most important element into your process, clearing your head.

Morning meditation increases concentration and self-awareness levels and, decreases stress and anxiety. There are a number of successful people that practice regular meditation. If meditation is new and intimidating for you, try utilizing YouTube videos or meditation applications. Search “morning meditation” in Google to find a plethora of options to choose from. Lastly, try meditating before you touch any technology for the work day for a bigger, more meaningful impact.

Moving your body can mean going to the gym, taking a walk, or trying at-home workouts. Whatever your definition of it is, sweating in the morning greatly impacts the rest of your day. A study at the University of Bristol found that people who exercise daily have higher levels of energy and a better daily outlook compared to those who do not. Along with this, exercising before you start your work day provides more mental clarity – something I am sure we all need every once and awhile.

Fun Fact: Barack Obama would lift weights and do cardio as part of his morning routine before he headed to the Oval Office for his Presidential work day.

The new year is a great time to take on exciting adventures and try new things. Challenge yourself to take time out of your day for a simple task or change that will benefit you.
